What's Closed in Gwinnett County on Thursday, Feb. 13?

If there’s anything open in Gwinnett County on Thursday, Feb. 13, it’ll be big news.

Government offices, courts and schools will keep their doors closed Thursday — it’s the third straight Snow Day for students and teachers — as the area feels the effects of this week’s winter storm.

Trash pickups, public transportation, and recreation centers are also impacted.

Open will be Georgia Emergency Management Agency's two shelters in the county — at the Georgia National Guard Armory in Lawrenceville and Maryam Masjid in Duluth.

Here’s latest statement from Gwinnett County:

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 12, 2014) – Gwinnett County’s Emergency Operations Center continues to operate and monitor the impacts of the winter storm while staff from public safety, transportation, water resources, and other county departments are working to protect public safety and keep vital services running during the winter storm.

All Gwinnett County Government administrative offices and public facilities, including park facilities such as aquatic centers, community recreation centers, and gymnasiums, will be closed on Thursday, Feb. 13 due to severe winter weather in the metro Atlanta area. All court operations, including the clerks’ offices located within the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center and related annexes, also will be closed on Thursday.

Transit services including express, GRTA Xpress, local, and paratransit services are cancelled for Thursday. GCT will continue to monitor road conditions. Up-to-date schedule information can be found at www.gctransit.com.

Trash and recycling collection in unincorporated Gwinnett County will not take place on Thursday, either. Solid waste customers can check the county’s website on Thursday evening for an update regarding trash collection. In the meantime, the Solid Waste and Recovered Materials Call Center is available to answer questions by telephone at 770.822.7141 or email at gcsolidwaste@gwinnettcounty.com. Residents who live inside city limits should check with their city for the status of their trash service.

The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation closed Ronald Reagan Parkway overnight. Transportation and public safety crews are thankful to all residents for staying off the roads during the winter storm. Their cooperation allows transportation crews to clear major arterials, bridges, and collector streets that in turn helps public safety personnel reach residents with emergencies.

Gwinnett County has opened a non-emergency call center for all storm-related issues. Anyone with a non-emergency issue related to the weather can call 770.513.5600 for assistance. Using this line will reserve the 911 for emergencies.

In addition, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency is operating two shelters in Gwinnett County. The Georgia National Guard Armory located at 261 East Crogan Street in Lawrenceville is serving as one of the shelters, with 51 cots. The second shelter is located at Maryam Masjid, 3650 Savannah Place Drive in Duluth.
