Black History Month Tribute

Students in the Shiloh Cluster paid tribute to Black History Month in a special program.

Shiloh Cluster students paid tribute to African-American leaders and heritage during a recent special celebration.

Schools from throughout the cluster performed speeches, singing, dance and poetry in the celebration, "Saluting African-American Living Legends."

Honorees of the night were: the Rev. Kerwin Lee, pastor of Berean Christian Church in Snellville; U.S. Rep. Henry "Hank" Johnson, of Georgia's District 4; Elisabeth Omilami, chief executive officer of Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless; Thomas Dortch Jr., president emeritus of 100 Black Men of America; Beauty Baldwin, the first African-American female superintendent of a Georgia school; Michael Thurmond, past commissioner of the state Department of Labor; host of BET's Bobby Jones Gospel; and U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia).

Schools participating, included Anderson-Livsey Elementary, Annistown Elementary, Centerville Elementary, Partee Elementary, Shiloh Elementary, Shiloh Middle and Shiloh High schools.

The event took place Thursday, Feb. 24 at Shiloh High School.
