Britt Elementary Receives Grant from South Gwinnett Cluster Foundation

As part of Britt Elementary's “Simple Strategies for Integrating Simple Technology: Any Class, Any Content, Any Day" initiative, staff requested a grant for $1,022, an amount that would cover the cost of seven Sony Bloggie Sport cameras.

The cameras would support teaching strategies that integrate technology in a meaningful way. As flip-style cameras, they are easy for young students to use. 

In response to the request, the South Gwinnett Cluster Foundation presented the school with a grant for the full amount. They also congratulated the school for receiving the "Family Friendly School Partnership" award, something only three schools in Georgia received. 

The Foundation's mission is to "establish partnerships with [their] schools, residents, and business communities to promote the academic enrichment, along with growth and success of the students within the South Gwinnett Cluster," according to board member Jimmy Norton.

"Our belief is that a school, whose staff positively engages and accommodates parents, will also show that same level of drive and achievement in the classroom," said Norton during the presentation.

The award is given to schools that offer "exceptional customer service for Georgia families."

"These schools are models for the entire state on how to engage families and make parents feel welcome from the moment they walk in the door," Georgia superintendent Dr. John Barge said in a statement. "We must find more ways to get parents involved in the education of their children, whether it's online or in person." 

The winners were selected because they represent the best in customer service for Georgia families, whether it’s on the phone, at the front office or on the Internet, according to a news release. The schools have welcoming staff members, comfortable waiting areas, clear signage and engaging student work throughout the building.
