Brookwood Graduate Places Seventh in U.S. Collegiate Skating Championship

Louisa Barama is senior at Oglethorpe University.

Oglethorpe University senior , Brookwood High School graduate, took seventh place at the junior level of this year's U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships

The competition was held July 21-24, 2011 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Barama, a native of Lilburn, represented Oglethorpe in the competition. The championship is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, and it is the longest running collegiate ice skating program.

Barama performed a short and long program, and finished the competition with a total score of 70.78.

"I am proud of my accomplishment," said Barama, a physics major. "This experience was amazing and I am so glad I finished well. This is a great competition and I really enjoyed every part of it."

Oglethorpe University was the only college or university represented from the state of Georgia in both the junior and senior divisions of the championship.

Oglethorpe University is an NCAA-member institution that competes at the Division III level. Although the university does not sponsor a figure skating club, the university encourages its student-athletes to pursue their individual sports at the most competitive level possible.
