Carjacking Prompts Lockdown at Centerville Elementary

The Snellville-area school was on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.

Update: According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, one of the carjacking suspects was caught about a mile from the school. 

Original story, posted at 3:47 p.m.:

Centerville Elementary in Snellville was on lockdown Wednesday (Dec. 11) due to a vehicle involved in a possible carjacking incident. 

The actual carjacking took place in Norcross around 8 a.m. Wednesday, but an officer spotted the vehicle in Snellville around 11:30 a.m., according to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. 

The school went on lockdown as a precaution as advised by law enforcement officials, said Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana. 

The police chase ended near Centerville Elementary. The lockdown lasted for about an hour and was lifted shortly before 1 p.m.
