Color Guard to Debut at Season Opener

The South Gwinnett High School Junior ROTC will make its first presentation Friday, during the season football opener against Lowndes High.

History is in the making as the cadets from South Gwinnett High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) get ready to present the school’s first-ever color guard at against its rival, the Lowndes Vikings.  

For the four members of the South Gwinnett High School JROTC Color Guard, being a part of the first-ever JROTC Color Guard at the school and performing in the season opening home football game will be a once in a lifetime experience for the cadets.

“I am so excited to be a part of this historical event and to present the state and national colors in front of our home crowd,” said Cadet Jordan Gooch, captain of the color guard. 

“The cadets have shown true dedication and diligence while preparing for this upcoming event.  I know they will do well, said Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Nate Flegler, Senior Army Instructor, South Gwinnett High JROTC Program. Members of the color guard include:  Cadet Jordan Gooch, Cadet Kamau Germaine, Cadet Brandon Carter, and Cadet Quayvon Richardson.

High school JROTC programs focus on leadership and character development in students. The Army JROTC curriculum develops young people’s leadership skills while also teaching self-management, health and problem solving skills. Its mission is to inspire students to set a course for success by teaching them to be self-reliant, motivated to complete their education, and to be successful, productive citizens. There is no obligation to join the military for students who participate in JROTC.
