Eight Snellville Schools Garner Title I Honors

Of the eight Snellville schools receiving the Title I Distinguished School honor, one also got a monetary award.

Eight Snellville schools have received the state's 2012 Title I Distinguished School recognition, according to a recent press release from Gwinnett County Public Schools. 

The schools earn the honor of Title I Distinguished School by making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) for at least three years in a row.

  • , which also received a $1,530 award for being a "distinguished" school for the past eight years. The School has made Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, for the past decade.
  • , , and elementary schools, which each made AYP for the past nine years, and have been a "distinguished" school for seven years.
  • , which has made AYP for the past seven years, and has five years as a Title I "distinguished" school.
  • , which has made AYP for the past five years, and has been a Title I "distinguished" school for three years.
  • , which has made AYP for the past four years, and has received the Title I "distinguished" award for the past two years.

State Superintendent of Schools John Barge recently announced that 824 schools received the title of being a Georgia's 2012 Title I Distinguished School. Of that number, 33 were schools in Gwinnett County's district.

"These schools are showing that high expectations, coupled with effective educators in the building, produce outstanding student achievement," said Barge in a release.

Steve Flynt, Gwinnett’s associate superintendent for school leadership and operational support, said in a press release that the district was "pleased that the Georgia DOE is recognizing a large number of Gwinnett schools."

In addition, he said, "Our teachers and administrators work very hard every day to make sure students are meeting the rising expectations. We are proud of their academic achievement despite the challenges.”
