GCPS To Tentatively Adopt Budget April 19

Board work session and District I meeting also planned at Grayson High.

The Gwinnett County school system, also dealing with a controversial redistricting involving school clusters in Suwanee and Duluth, has speeded up its 2012 budget process.

The Gwinnett school board plans to tentatively adopt the fiscal year 2012 budget on Tuesday, April 19, during a meeting and work session at Grayson High. The session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Original plans called for the five-member board to vote on the $1.7 billion spending plan at its May meeting. There had been no previous mention of tentative adoption. Formal approval still would be required after any tentative vote.

The school board also will hold a budget work session Saturday, April 16, at 8:30 a.m. at its Suwanee headquarters. The system has proposed a budget that is 6.1 percent less than FY 2011.

The GCPS budget calls for no layoffs, but no hiring except for critical needs positions. Also, there would be no cost-of-living raises.
