Snellville Commerce Club Awards Scholarships
The Snellville Commerce Club announced the winners of the 2011 FBLA/DECA scholarship on May 3rd.
The Snellville Commerce Club, established in 1984, selected two out of fifteen applicants as the recipients of a $1,000 scholarship. The event is the largest charitable event of the year for the club.
Brookwood’s Aida Syrkett and South Gwinnett’s Erika Galdamez, both seniors, won the scholarship for their outstanding academic achievements and their participation in the Future Business Leaders of America program.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, Aida has a 4.0 GPA and participates in her school’s Reading Club and Computer Science Club. She also tutors. Besides the FBLA/DECA scholarship, she received a National Achievement Award from the National Merit Corporation. This last award is a $2,500 scholarship awarded to seniors who received the highest SAT scores in the nation, among other qualifications. She is one of 11 recipients in Gwinnett, out of 700 nationwide.
