Educator at Snellville School is GCPS Teacher of the Year Finalist

The district has chosen finalists, including a teacher from a Snellville school.

Gwinnett County Public Schools announced their six finalists for Teacher of the Year Friday morning. None of the five semi-finalists from Lawrenceville schools made it on to the next round.

Here are the six finalists announced by GCPS:

Brittany Palazzo, 3rd Grade Teacher at Mulberry Elementary

Jennifer Dunn, 5th Grade Teacher at Pharr Elementary, Snellville

Keri Beth Tidmore Jones, Advanced Computer Science (Grades 6-8) and 8th Grade Yearbook Teacher at Dacula Middle

Sarah Black, 6-8th Grade Orchestra Teacher at North Gwinnett Middle

Aundrea Muth, 12th Grade Political Systems and AP Government Teacher at
Mill Creek High

Lindsey Cafarella, 10th Grade World History Teacher at Peachtree Ridge
High

A selection committee chose 25 semi-finalists out of the -- one for each school selected by their peers. The committee will now select the 2012 GCPS Teacher of the Year from the six finalists. The winner will be announced at a special banquet on Thursday, November 3rd at the Gwinnett Center.

More on Jennifer Dunn, from GCPS:

"Jennifer Dunn was aiming for a life on the stage and under the spotlight. Little did she know she was destined to take center stage in a different setting—the classroom. It was during this Gwinnett alum’s senior year at when some of her teachers inspired her, changing her career plans from acting to teaching."

"She entered the profession at McKendree Elementary in 2004. After some time away from Gwinnett, she returned to her roots in 2007 as a 5th grade teacher at . Mrs. Dunn is currently working on her specialist’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University, and a master’s degree in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University."
