Snellville Middle Student Dies at School Dance

An eighth grade boy passed away after suffering a seizure Thursday night.

A Snellville Middle student died during a school dance Thursday night (Nov. 14) after suffering a seizure.

According to Gwinnett County Public Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach, the eighth grade boy was transported to an area hospital where he passed away.

"The school has several emergency response teams at the school this morning," continued Roach. "They are visiting all of the eighth grade homerooms, meeting with teachers and staff, and talking to students who need assistance."

She also noted that Principal Katise Menchan will be sending a letter home Friday (Nov. 15) and posting it on the Snellville Middle website.

"This has been a very difficult day for all of us," wrote Menchan in the letter. "A loss like this touches not just our students but others throughout the school and community."
