Thousands to Attend Readers Rally

More than 100 school teams will compete this weekend in the annual Gwinnett Readers Rally.

Thousands are expected to attend the seventh annual Gwinnett Readers Rally this weekend in Lilburn.

More than 100 school teams, including those from the Snellville area, will participate in the literacy quiz bowl competition. The event is for readers in grades 4-12.

The event will be held 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at Berkmar High, 405 Pleasant Hill Road in Lilburn. The opening ceremonies and recognition of teams begins at 9:00 a.m.

Some 102 teams -- including 63 elementary schools, 24 middle schools and 15 high schools -- will vie for the top spot. That's an increase from 97 teams that participated last year.

Students will compete in teams of team, using their knowledge of literature to answer questions based on a pre-selected list of books.

At the of Saturday's event, four elementary school teams, two from the
middle school level, and two high school teams will earn a spot to compete during the final challenge.

The Championship Readers Rally Competition will take place on
Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the GCPS TV Studio. The competition will be air Monday, March 12 through Sunday, March 18 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
