Top French Honors for Brookwood Student

A graduating Brookwood senior placed first in the state and sixth in the nation in the Level 4 national French exam.

Two Gwinnett County Public Schools students, including one from Brookwood High, earned Georgia’s highest scores on the National French Exam, according to a press statement from the school district.

Stephane Hosty, who has since graduated from Brookwood High, placed sixth in the nation and first in Georgia on the Level 4 French exam. He was a fourth-year French student, and Christophe Powers was Stephane’s teacher.

Michael Le, who is a rising senior at Archer High, placed third in the nation and first in the state on the Level 1 French exam. Archer High teacher Tamarra Soto was Michael’s French teacher, and he was a first-year French student.

The Natioal French Exam is administered annually across the nation, and it assesses the students’ knowledge of the language. Out of test-takers in Georgia, the two Gwinnett students outperformed their peers.

In addition to these students placing first in Georgia, 36 other GCPS French students earned the top-10 state rankings, with 25 of those students placing in the top 10 nationally.

The National French Exam is part of the National French Contest/Le Grand Concours, an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. The level of each exam corresponds with the number of years the student has been taking that specific foreign language. French has six levels.
