Two Brookwood Students Take DECA State Honors

Two Brookwood High students were among 31 in the school district that receives state DECA honors, and they are now invited to the international conference.

More than 30 Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students are moving on to participate in an international competition this week after recently earning top finishes at the state level event.

The 31 high school students, including two from , were invited to the DECA (Distributive Clubs of America) International Career Development Conference. It is an event for local school clubs with a focus on business and marketing.

This year, the conference takes place April 28 – May 1, 2012, in Salt Lake City.

DECA is an international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service. Through DECA, students have the opportunity to participate in leadership development activities and compete in a variety of events.

Gwinnett County Public Schools has 17 active DECA chapters, with more than 2,075 students participating.

The two local students invited to participate after placing first or second at the state competition are:

  • Jonathon Lister, of Brookwood High, placed first for "Principles of
    Business Management and Administration"
  • Kelly Behr, of Brookwood High, placed first for "Hospitality Services Testing"
