Gwinnett Chamber Planning Small Business Outreach Event in Snellville

The advice and Q&A sessions will be coming to other cities in Gwinnett in 2014.

The Gwinnett Chamber small business session in Duluth on Wednesday (Nov. 20) was the first in a series of outreach events coming in the county.

Chamber official Vince DeSilva noted at the session, which was held at Duluth City Hall, that similar events will be held in 2014 in Snellville in February, Norcross in April, and Suwanee in June. (Details will be announced.)

The chamber, which is based in the Duluth area, is making the effort because 95 percent of its member businesses have 49 or fewer employees. And the sessions, which are free of charge, are geared toward those who want to start a business, or improve its results.

DeSilva said the sessions are geared to providing businesses the resources that are available throughout Gwinnett and with its various cities.

Among those present at Wednesday's session were Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris and several other City Hall officials, including Economic Development Director Chris McGahee.

Others who offered advice and answered questions included Erica Bracey of the Georgia SBDC Network, Jenny Wesselmann of the Korean Task Force, and Jim Sanders of SCORE.

"Economic development is creating wealth for the community," McGahee said. "What government does is give you a playing field."
