Brookwood's Sims Signs With Braves

Star pitcher Lucas Sims received a $1.65 signing bonus, according to reports.

Lucas Sims, who led Brookwood High School to the state Class AAAAA baseball finals, has signed a contract with his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves.

According to a report on SI.com, the right-handed pitcher received a $1.65-million signing bonus. He is expected to join the Braves’ Gulf Coast League team next week.

Sims has a fastball pitch clocked in the low 90s,Β according to published reports.Β He has said that John Smoltz was his favorite player growing up.

"My whole pitching career was patterned after John Smoltz," Sims was quoted in a Braves tweet as saying. "It's an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as him."
