Golden Games and Golden Years

Bowling wrapped up for the Gwinnett Senior Golden Games on Wednesday, and we talked with some of the players, including 95-year-old Louise Howington.

The Gwinnett Senior Golden Games is going on now through May 25. Bowling wrapped up Wednesday, May 11, and we caught up with 95-year-old bowling phenom Louise Howington.

"I had one good game," she said.

Howington, who is actually from Loganville, leads the Keenagers bowling league. The league has members from the Snellville Senior Center, and the group meets at the AMF in Snellville for tournaments and practice.

Lots of folks seem to like Howington, and see her as a testament that anyone can do anything at any age. And, although Howington said she didn't do as well as she could have on Wednesday, she still placed first in her age group for mixed doubles, along with Bill Marks, her bowling partner.

"You're never too old til you think you're too old," she said. "I may be getting to that point, but not at the moment."

Anita Genung, who is in her 70s, said Howington is a great role model

"Louise, she's just really my hero," Genung said. "I just love it. She's 95, and she comes out every Monday, and she bowls ,and she's just got a good spirit."

More than 30 medals were awarded to the mixed doubles participants, who were all 55 years old and older. The Golden Games run until May 25, 2011.
