Grayson Beats Brookwood on Late TD

Interception return for a touchdown gave the Rams a 14-7 victory.

Grayson defensive back Kasey Gaines returned an interception 18 yards for a touchdown with 27 seconds left in the game as the Rams won the Region 8-AAAAA championship with a 14-7 win over Friday night.

The game lived up to its pregame hype as both teams battled fiercely in front of a filled-to-capacity Grayson Community Stadium.

It was the featured televised game of the week on GPB, which frequently showed excerpts of which poked fun at each other.

Grayson improved to 9-0 overall, 7-0 in Region 8-AAAAA. Brookwood fell to 6-3, 5-2.

The victory sent Grayson fans flowing onto the field.

The winning score came when Brookwood quarterback Zach Moon scrambled and tried to throw a shovel pass, which was picked off by Gaines, who ran untouched into the end zone.

Brookwood had a chance to take the lead late in the third quarter, but missed a field goal from 39 yards away.

Grayson scored on its first possession with a 7-yard run by Robert Nkemdiche.

Brookwood evened the score in the third quarter on a 21-yard pass from Moon to Michael Gouge, who broke two tackles on the way to the end zone.
