hosted their annual back-to-school bash this weekend and collected over 200 stuffed backpacks for low-income children and youth.

The backpacks were donated by and were stuffed with school supplies donated by church members.  Besides physical donations, over $1,500 was given in cash.

Children of church members, needy families in the community and children at adopted schools, like , will receive the supplies.  If any are left, the church will donate them to shelters.

A number of guests entertained children and youth as part of the Back to School Bash.  Up-and-coming rap artist Chance performed original music and shared his testimony.

Chance was raised in church, but turned to drugs in his early teens and eventually dropped out of school at the age of 16.  He was in and out of the court systems for seven or eight years, until he dedicated his life to Christ at the age of 21.

Now, he is actively involved in serving his community and reaching out to others who are where he once was.

Former Atlanta Hawks basketball player Mike "Stinger" Glenn also spoke.  His All-Star Basketball camp for the hearing impaired just celebrated its 32nd anniversary.  He spoke about his passion for outreach, basketball, and God.

In a few days, the church plans to visit 15-25 local schools and pray for them individually.

Pastor Kevin Lee, who has led the church for two years out of the six years they have been on Highpoint Rd., said they want to be a church that makes an impact on the community.

The church has around 1,200 members at the Highpoint Rd. location; the DeKalb location, which was founded first, has over 10,000 members.
