Code Red Smog Alert for Friday, June 29

Unhealthy air conditions accompany the region's heat wave for Friday.

An alert issued on Thursday afternoon for Friday by Georgia's Clean Air Campaign forecasts the air quality at 151 - which signifies a Code Red Smog Alert.

In this range many people will be affected by ozone. The alert is for the metro Atlanta area and includes Snellville. This the first red alert of the year and comes on the heels of two days of orange alerts.

Because of the predicted concentrations of ground-level ozone, air quality in metro Atlanta is predicted to be unhealthy.

Health Advisory:  Air is more likely to be unhealthy for most people, especially people with heart or lung disease (including asthma), seniors and children. Most people should restrict their outdoor exertion to morning or late evening hours when ozone is low, to avoid high ozone exposures.
