Gwinnett Braves Award November Grant to Mother’s Choice Learning Center

Outreach program for families in need is recipient of team's "Thanksgiving"-themed grant.

The Gwinnett Braves announced last year that the team’s November 2011 Grant was awarded to Mother’s Choice Learning Center, Inc.  The center earned the $1,000 grant for fitting November’s “Thanksgiving” theme: supporting children and families that are homeless.

They will be honored tonight, Aug. 13, at the Gwinnett Braves game.

Mother’s Choice Learning Center is a non-profit organization that provides numerous resources to families in need.  Amongst its many objectives, Mother’s Choice strives to provide food and clothing, temporary housing, financial assistance and employment assistance to less-fortunate families of Gwinnett County and the metro Atlanta area.

“Mother's Choice Learning Center is overwhelmed with joy for the support that the Gwinnett Braves have given to our organization,” said Mother’s Choice CEO and Project Director Nichole Richardson.  “We feel that we not only gained a business partnership, but we also gained a new friend.”

Mother’s Choice will applied the grant money towards a number of outreach programs for families this past winter.  Those programs included serving holiday dinner to children and parents from their after-school program, collecting clothing and food for homeless families and assisting parents in their search for housing and employment.

"I love helping families and children in need," said Richardson.

Funds also went towards purchasing classroom supplies for students in their after-school program.

The Gwinnett Braves operate under the Atlanta Braves Foundation and award monthly grants to organizations in Gwinnett and its surrounding counties through this nonprofit arm of the team.

Each month has a designated theme, allowing the team to reach a diverse set of groups. Grant recipients receive a monetary donation, Gwinnett Braves tickets and opportunities year round to raise awareness for their cause in partnership with the Gwinnett Braves.
