Gwinnett Community Clinic Gives Update on Patient Services, Volunteers

Between January and April of 2012, the nonprofit clinic saw nearly 500 patients, with most of them coming from the Snellville area.

recently completed its first quarter of the year, and Snellville Patch is providing an update below of their services and activities between January and April.

Also noteworthy is the clinic's upcoming golf fundraiser on Sept. 24, and organizers are now looking for assistance with that event. For more information on how to help or participate, contact the center at 770-985-1199.

, located in Snellville, is a collaboration of volunteer medical professionals, and citizens who volunteer their time helping out at the clinic.

Recent quarterly highlights:

  • The clinic now works with the Georgia Volunteer Healthcare Program, which allows the nonprofit offer sovereign immunity and personal malpractice insurance for licensed volunteers at no cost to them. (According to the program's website, volunteers must treat patients at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty rate.
  • From January to April, there were 120 referrals to the clinic and 238 patients enrolled or re-enrolled.
  • The estimated value of several services provided these patients is: $60,000 for laboratory tests, $31,000 for clinic visits, and $23,000 for volunteer hours.
  • There were 453 patient visits from January to April of this year.
  • Most clinic patients lived in the Snellville ZIP code of 30078, in the Stone Mountain ZIP code of 30087 and the Lawrenceville ZIP code of 30044.
  • Most of the patients served between January and April were ages 50-59.

  • The clinic is in need of additional volunteers to enter data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. To volunteer call 770-985-3640, ext. 1.
  • South Gwinnett Radiology is providing financial, as well as in-kind donations to the clinic. The group of physicians interpret diagnostic imaging tests for clinic patients at no charge.
  • Smokerise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain also supports the nonprofit.
  • employees continue to donate to the nonprofit clinic by designating it as a recipient of payroll deductions through United Way's program.
  • Colleen Weinkle, Dr. and Mrs. Norman Freid and Dr. and Mrs. Joel Freid are among those making recent personal donations to the clinic.
  • There are several new volunteers and partners, including: Sonja Bowen, who provides data entry and works on special projects; Kita Mack, who provides assistance with patient discharge; Kimberly O'Brien, who works at the front desk; Elana Sporn, who helps check in patients; Caitlyn Kryston, who assists with patient discharge; and Tanveer Kauser, who assists with patient assessment and evaluation.
