Gwinnett Relay for Life

There will be a special kick-off event this Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Gwinnett Arena. The American Cancer Society and the Gwinnett Gladiators will team up for the special event.

There are currently 158 teams registered for this year’s Relay For Life. The goal is to have up to 400 teams and raise $2.1 million this year.

“We’re thrilled to host this event with the Gwinnett Gladiators and introduce the growing Gwinnett community to the importance of Relay For Life and how it affects thousands of people that battle cancer daily," said Gwinnett Relay For Life Committee Co-Chair Sheila Fowler.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with an appreciation reception for team captains. A Relay information area, with activities for the public, will follow at 6 p.m. The community will get a preview of May 4 event, which takes place at the county fairgrounds.

At 7:05 p.m., the Gwinnett Gladiators will hit the ice to take on the Greenville Road Warriors.

During the Gladiators first period break, a bagpiper will play to honor cancer survivors in attendance, and Relay team captains will be recognized as they parade their team’s signs for a lap around the ice.

“We hope to continue to grow as an organization through the support of our community, teams and team captains,” Fowler said in a press release. “This event is a fun and exciting way to say ‘thank you’ to those who continue to lead in the fight.”

Each (registered) Relay team will receive two complimentary tickets for the team captains or designees. Additional $11 tickets for team members, family and friends can be purchased at: http://www.gwinnettgladiators.com/site/ticketoffers/relaykickoff.asp.
