Help Build a Lego Menorah This Sunday

Chanukah celebrations taking place in Woodstock and Acworth.

Written by Ann Marie Quill

The community is invited to join in the construction of a giant Lego menorah that will highlight the Chabad Jewish Center's annual Chanukah celebration.

The event, now in its sixth year, is co-sponsored by Woodstock's Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta, the Cherokee County business community and the Chabad Jewish Center. Festivities will begin with the Menorah build at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Outlet Shoppes. A lighting ceremony and Chanukah celebration will follow.

“We are always looking for new ideas to keep the kids on the edge of their seats. The Lego Menorah was perfect,” said Rabbi Zalman Charytan, director of the Chabad Jewish Center, in a press release.  “The uniqueness of the Menorah is what the child remembers. Not only are we trying to give the children a unique and exciting Chanukah experience; we are teaching them that Judaism is fun and exciting.”

The program will also feature remarks from elected officials, chocolate gelt (coins) for the children, Latkes (potato pancakes) and other Chanukah goodies.

A 9-foot Menorah lighting will also take place on Main Street in Acworth on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m.
