More than 270 students donned their caps and gowns Friday, as they graduated from Georgia Gwinnett College. It was a notable graduation for the young college in Lawrenceville for a number of reasons. GGC graduated their 1,000th student, welcomed their first double major and double degree graduates and their first Fulbright Scholar. The commencement was also the last for GGC's founding president Dr. Daniel Kaufman. He will step down at the end of June to become president of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Julie Allen reaches out to the Snellville high school for being integral part of her family's life. Her daughter, Taylor, is this year's valedictorian.
The graduation of Brookwood High's valedictorian is especially important to one long-time educator -- her mother. In 2010, Julie Allen retired with 31 years in education, and with 21 of those years in Gwinnett County Public Schools, including Jones Middle and South Gwinnett High. She graduated as a Bronco in the mid-1980s, and now her daughter, Taylor, is doing the same. Because of Taylor's stellar grades, she also is this year's valedictorian. In an email to the Brookwood High school community, Julie Allen thanks the school for being a part of her family's life. Here is an excerpt, provided by Gwinnett County Public Schools: "It is hard to believe 27 years ago my husband and I were tossing our BHS caps into the air, and now it is Taylor'…
Educators Ken and Patty Lindahl are retiring after 30 years at the Snellville high school. The community thanks them for their service to students and dedication to the arts.
Applause erupts, and it seems unending. The audience leaps to its feet. There are cheers, and there are tears -- all for two people: Ken and Patty Lindahl. This day has been three decades in the making. Drawn together by their mutual love of the arts, the husband and wife are now taking their final bow at Brookwood High. It's hard to imagine that this day would ever come. But, it has. It's time for the Lindahls to retire. For all the love, and all the memories, and all the hard work of so many people year after year, "we are so fortunate," Ken Lindahl said at the end of their final performance. Growing Up Artsy As teenagers, the two met in St. Joseph, Mich., at a street dance not far from a lake. "It was like "West Side Story," except for…
