The Rev. Buddy Hoffman was first hospitalized on April 15 for an aortic aneurysm.
Recent updates on the Rev. Buddy Hoffman's condition is providing both positive and confusing news for his church's congregation. It's been about five weeks since the pastor was first hospitalized on April 15 for an aortic aneurysm. On Monday, May 20, doctors performed a procedure to open his lungs and to take a closer look at his heart. By late afternoon, the procedures indicated that both the lungs and heart "look good," according to the Grace Church Facebook page. "No infection to see there," the post continued. "Of course that's also quite frustrating news as we don't yet know the cause." A fever still remained, along with many questions. The church continues to pray for Hoffman's recovery." On the Facebook post, the church added: "…

Snyder will replace the retiring Myers as chief effective May 25.
Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services is getting a new leader and a revamped facility. Gwinnett officials announced Tuesday that Casey Snyder, a 24-year veteran of the department, will replace Bill Myers, who will retire on May 24 after 30 years with the county. Also, the county announced that a $1.3 million expansion of Gwinnett’s Fire Academy will begin this summer. Snyder, who will oversee the department of 800 employees, began his career in emergency services in 1984. “Casey Snyder is the ideal choice to lead Fire and Emergency Services," County Administrator Glenn Stephens said in a news release. "Like his predecessor, Bill Myers, whom we will miss greatly, Casey started as a firefighter with the department and took on increasing …
Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are, you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.
Here at Snellville Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party. 1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy…

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn’t think so. What do you think?
There has been many a report of college grads taking menial jobs during the recent economic downturn. Yet others have moved back in with parents, unable to support themselves or pay off college loans. According to a story in The Daily Mail, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, famous for his nanny tactics with constituents by making laws restricting what he considers bad habits, is now suggesting that not everybody go to college. But does he have a point? The Daily Mail reported that Bloomberg, speaking on his weekly radio show on May 17, suggested that students who aren’t necessarily top of their class should rather go to trade school than take on an expensive college degree. His example, the Daily Mail reports, is the career of a plumber. "…

Although last week was a tough one for the Obama administration, the president's popularity doesn’t seem to have been affected.
After scandals plagued the White House last week, this week began with yet another one. However, according to the Huffington Post, President Barack Obama appears to have weathered the storms relatively unscathed – at least according to a recent poll. The Huffington Post reported that the poll, from CNN and ORC International, found that 53 percent of Americans approve of the job the president is doing while 45 percent disapprove. This is the same as he was doing in the polls before the scandals hit. This recent poll was taken on May 17 and 18, and has a 3 percent margin of error, the Huffington Post reports. The scandals began when the White House faced continued scrutiny on Benghazi then expanded to news of the IRS unfairly targeting …
