Guidebooks Cause Bomb Scare - Buckhead Patch A set of Buckhead Guidebooks placed near a Buckhead bank on Wednesday caused a bomb scare and shut down Roswell and West Wieuca roads for a few hours while police investigated the suspicious package. Atlanta Police Public Affairs Officer Kim Jones informed Buckhead Patch that there was never any danger. Officials in Walton County Investigating a Suspicious Death - Loganville Patch Brandon Rhinehart, 26, of Loganville, died on April 9, 2013, two days after he sustained a beating, allegedly at the hands of two Loganville women. Loganville Deputy Police Chief Dick Lowry confirmed Rhinehart's death is part of an open investigation. "We can't draw any conclusions until we get the toxicology and autopsy results, but it is an open investigation at this time," Lowry said. According to the Loganville Police reports, officers responded to Bay Creek Crossing at about 6:32 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, in connection with a report of a dispute. State Recommends Firing Art Professor for Alleged Sexual Encounter with a UGA Student - Athens Patch An alleged sexual encounter with a UGA student during a Maymester in Costa Rica could cost tenured art professor James "Jim" Barsness his job. According to a story in the Athens Banner Herald, Barsness is a faculty member of the Lamar Dodd School of Art who went with UGA students to a Maymester in Costa Rica in 2012. There, the story says, quoting documents, Barsness is alleged to have had a “public sexual encounter” with a student. Other students saw Barness's alleged sexual encounter with the student, who was under his supervision, the story says, and this caused "substantial disruption" in the program. Police Need Help Identifying Man Struck, Killed in Lilburn - Lilburn-Mountain Park Patch The Lilburn Police Department needs the community's help in identifying a man who was struck and killed while crossing the road on April 7. Police say a vehicle traveling northbound on Pleasant Hill Road hit the man, as he was crossing at a dimly lit section about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday. An initial investigation determined that that speed was not a factor, and no charges are pending against the driver, according to a police department press release. Local Store Busted for Selling Synthetic Pot - Cumming Patch Forty bags of possible synthetic marijuana were confiscated by authorities on Thursday from a convenience store in Cumming. Deputies with the Narcotics Unit of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office found the substance hidden above a tile in the ceiling of the Save Money Food Mart located at 3671 Hutchinson Road. Enamuel Haque, 53, of Duncan Court in Lawrenceville was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute. Residents Turn Toxic Site Into Zonolite Park - North Druid Hills Patch An area that was once an asbestos-poisoned wetland is now a new park in the Emory University area just south of North Druid Hills thanks to local volunteers, including the South Fork Conservancy. In an article published on the Saporta Report, Ben Smith wrote, "Zonolite Park is 12 acres near Briarcliff and Clifton Roads, where the South Fork of Peachtree Creek parallels railroad tracks. For two decades beginning in 1950, freight trains stopped at the W.R. Grace Co. plant and dumped as much as 1,225 tons of raw material for attic insulation marketed as Zonolite." Production Company to Film TV Pilot in Norcross - Norcross Patch In a special called meeting Monday, the Norcross City Council approved the permit application for a production company to film a TV show pilot in the downtown area. FTP Productions plans to film the ABC pilot for a supernatural drama called "The Returned" from Wednesday, March 13, to Friday, March 15. Most filming will take place at the Pafford home at 566 N.
