Britt Elementary Receives Grant from South Gwinnett Cluster Foundation

The elementary school was also recognized for its 'Family Friendly School Partnership' award.

As part of Britt Elementary's “Simple Strategies for Integrating Simple Technology: Any Class, Any Content, Any Day" initiative, staff requested a grant for $1,022, an amount that would cover the cost of seven Sony Bloggie Sport cameras. The cameras would support teaching strategies that integrate technology in a meaningful way. As flip-style cameras, they are easy for young students to use.  In response to the request, the South Gwinnett Cluster Foundation presented the school with a grant for the full amount. Around 540 students attended a live performance of 'Annie.'

On Nov. 7, students at Snellville’s Britt Elementary School were treated to a special event by their neighbor and community partner, Snellville First Baptist Church.  The church was holding dinner theater performances of the musical Annie from Nov. 7-11, and they hosted a special, additional performance for Britt’s entire student body on Wednesday morning, according to a recent news release.  The performance allowed students to learn an important portion of Gwinnett County’s music curriculum in an authentic environment. In between scenes, an emcee from the church staff taught students the customs of attending a formal performance, such as when to and not to applaud and how to greet the protagonists and antagonists during scenes. Students …

Britt Elementary Wins Family-Friendly Partnership Award

It is the only metro-Atlanta school to receive the award.

Britt Elementary is one of three schools chosen to receive the Family-Friendly Partnership School Award in Georgia. It is the only school to receive the honor in metro-Atlanta. The award is given to schools that offer "exceptional customer service for Georgia families." "These schools are models for the entire state on how to engage families and make parents feel welcome from the moment they walk in the door," Georgia superintendent Dr. John Barge said in a statement. "We must find more ways to get parents involved in the education of their children, whether it's online or in person."  The winners were selected because they represent the best in customer service for Georgia families, whether it’s on the phone, at the front office or on the…
