Updated 5 p.m., August 10, 2011: Officials have now identified a man killed Wednesday morning at a Burger King in Buckhead, and Gwinnett County police are officially linking the slain robber to a string of similar incidents in the area. Cpl. Jake Smith, of Gwinnett County Police Department, said the man was identified as 31-year-old Jimmy Allen of Atlanta. Police say he is the same person responsible for approximately 20 armed Burger King robberies in the metro Atlanta area, including about six in Gwinnett County and one in the Snellville area. Police say that at least 20 robberies, including one in the Snellville area, may be linked to the same person.
Gwinnett County Police say that in the last three months approximately 20 Burger King restaurants have been held up at gunpoint in the Metro area, about six of them in Gwinnett. At least one of the robberies was at Burger King located at 3580 Centerville Highway, Snellville. The area is in unincorporated Gwinnett County. Through comparing surveillance footage and witness accounts, they believe the same man is responsible for the robberies, along with hold-ups of multiple KFCs and Taco Bells. They are now seeking the public’s help in locating the man, who they describe as a dark-skinned black male with a muscular build, approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. Inside the Police Reports: The Burger King on Highway 78 was robbed by a masked man with a pistol.
Police are investigating a June 10 report of an early morning armed robbery at a Burger King restaurant on Highway 78 in Lilburn. According to the police report, a dark-masked man with a gun took an undisclosed amount of cash from the front register, the drive-thru register, and the cash drawer and safe in the restaurant's back office. The amount of money stolen was not known. Gwinnett police officers responded to the call at 6:30 a.m. after the complainant, a 20-year-old Stone Mountain resident, reported the armed robbery.
