Prevent Carbon Monoxide in Your Home This Winter

The Gwinnett County communications division warns that carbon monoxide is hard to detect; precautions need to be taken to keep your family safe.

The weather is much colder outside, and that means people are using their heaters to stay warm. Fire and Emergency Services wants you to avoid being a victim of carbon monoxide poisoning while heating your home this winter. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is hard to detect and can cause illness or possibly death before you know it's there. Carbon monoxide comes from incomplete combustion of gas or oil-fired appliances such as furnaces, dryers, wood-burning stoves, fireplaces, and car engines.
