Chick-fil-A patron: "I guess Truett Cathy's feeling the love!"
Snellville residents parked their cars as far as three businesses down in order to attend Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day today. At the Scenic Highway/124 location, the crowds are always pretty big around lunch time. Today, cars were backed up all the way down the turning lane, and participants were parking in the lot next door as well as at the neighboring church. "I guess Truett Cathy's feeling the love!" said a woman with two young children as she followed a crowd down a side street and into the Chick-fil-A parking lot. --Were you there? On Wednesday, Chick-fil-A supporters across the nation will visit the chain to show their solidarity; on Friday, a National Same-Sex Kiss Day is planned at the same chain.
Update Wednesday, Aug. 1, 1:30 p.m.: Snellville Patch stopped by both Chick-fil-A locations; we interviewed patrons and took photos. Click through to read the updated story. Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate, has called for a "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" tomorrow, Aug. 1. A Facebook page created by Huckabee says that he is "incensed at the vitriolic assaults on the Chick Fil-A company because the CEO, Dan Cathy, made comments recently in which he affirmed his view that the Biblical view of marriage should be upheld." He stipulates that no one is being asked to carry signs, make speeches or openly demonstrate; rather, they are asked to simply show up and eat. As of Tuesday evening, 534,427 RSVP'…

The growing debate about whether Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy overstepped the line when he openly spoke of his support for marriage in the biblical sense has once again divided the country on the issue of gay marriage. Gay rights advocates are calling for a ban on Chick-fil-A and some government officials are backing them up. Two mayors, Rham Emanual in Chicago and Thomas Menino in Boston, have pledged to keep Chick-fil-A out of their cities. In a Time Magazine article, it is reported that there is no report or evidence that the restaurant chain discriminates against gay or lesbian customers or employees. The argument is strictly over Cathy’s statement in support of the biblical definition of the family unit. “We are very much supportive of …

I saw the invitation for the mommy-and-son date night at the Snellville Chick-fil-A on St. Patrick's Day, but due to my standard procrastination, we almost missed our chance to join in the fun. Reservations filled up faster than I ever imagined, because this was the only location around participating in this semi-national event. Why, you ask? Well, I asked, too. The father-daughter date night in February was such a great success at all the Atlanta area stores, why wouldn't all of them participate in this mother-son event too? Well, Ashley Cameron, director of marketing, said it was up to the individual stores, and Snellville got such a huge response from the February event, that they knew the mother-son event would work well, too. There …

Picketing and sit-downs would be more effective, in my opinion. I wish, however, that this restaurant, and others thinking of doing so in the future, can leave their "hot topic" opinions out of the public eye. I am beginning to question the CEO's …   more ›
