Nearly 430 South Gwinnett High School seniors graduated in a ceremony at Gwinnett Arena on Saturday.
South Gwinnett High School's class of 2012 graduated Saturday in a ceremony at Gwinnett Arena. Nearly 430 seniors walked the aisle and recieved their diplomas. Special guests were Dr. Robert McClure, the GCPS board representative for district IV, and J. Alvin Wilbanks, chief executive officer and superintendent of Gwinnett County Public Schools. McClure gave a speech reminding the graduates that life is a journey, to be a seeker and to lead a purposeful life. Wilbanks congratulated the graduating seniors, and remarked that the graduating classes of 2012 are "without a doubt one of the best educated in Gwinnett County's history." Gwinnett County's largest graduating class bids high school adieu.
Family and friends gathered Wednesday evening at Brookwood High School's community stadium to celebrate the graduation of nearly 800 seniors. At 779, the school's graduating class of 2012 is the largest in the county. The commencement addresses were given by Adrian Alabi, the class salutatorian, and Shushmita Hoque, the valedictorian. In Alabi's speech he told his classmates: "I continue to find that life is more about experiences than outcomes, and truly the Brookwood experience is unlike any other. "We can all appreciate the privilege and the opportunity that has been bestowed upon our lives to graduate and leave behind a legacy to remember and a community to remember." Next week, nearly 10,000 high school seniors will walk across stages in Gwinnett’ s 21 high schools, turning their tassels and beginning a new chapter in their lives. The senior report for the Class of 2012 indicates that 9,843 students are on track to graduate, and that many of them will be graduating with honors. This year’s class is the largest ever, and also one of the most accomplished, according to CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks. Gwinnett Public Schools released today the names of the valedictorian and salutatorian from Brookwood High School. The title of valedictorian is normally given to the student with the highest GPA, and salutatorian is given to the student with the second-highest GPA. Photos of the honorees are attached to the story.
