Readers' Choice Winner: Stone Mountain Park

We asked, and you chose a local, well-known park for the best staycation.

Snellville Patch readers picked Stone Mountain Park as the winner of the recent Readers' Choice poll winner for the best staycation. The park, which is located a few miles from Snellville in adjacent Stone Mountain, pulled 66 percent of the vote. And, there's good reason: The park is home to walking and biking paths, water fun and relaxation, several places of accommodation, amusement rides, a train that trucks around the mountain, an education in Georgia's history, as well as the mountain (which is actually the largest piece of exposed granite rock in the world) itself. Trailing far behind in the votes were Lake Lanier, which receiving 22 percent of the vote and the Lawrenceville Female Seminary/Gwinnett History Museum with 11 percent of…

These are all great places, but one thing I like to do with my family is explore history by going to some of the antique malls in the area. There are 3 on Hwy 78 between Henry Clower and Killian Hill; Unique Treasures, Ally's Attic, and the new one- Margins in New London Shopping Center behind McDonalds at Henry Clower. These are the perfect places to reminisce about our own heritage and learn …   more ›

Readers' Choice Winner: St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

In this week's edition of Readers' Choice, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church was voted to have the best preschool.

Snellville Patch readers determined that it had the best preschool out there. (It wasn't even on the list originally, and someone wrote in that it should be.) Despite the small size of the St. Matthew's preschool, the people who love it came out loud and proud. With 44 percent of the vote and most of the positive comments, parent, teachers and the like made sure …

Well, St. Matt's doesn't have the numbers that Cannon has, because we're smaller, but we parents are passionate about our preschool. I love it so much that I'm still very involved, even though my youngest is now in 1st grade. :)   more ›
