TDs on the last play of regulation and in OT give M.L. King 27-21 win over the Broncos.
Brookwood will not defend its Class AAAAA football championship. The Broncos lost 27-21 in overtime to M.L. King in a second-round game played Friday night at Hallford Stadium in DeKalb County. The Broncos (8-4) seemed to have the game in hand late in regulation when the Lions (12-0) scored on a 31-yard pass play on the final play. MLK made the extra point to tie game at 21-21 to force overtime. Lions quarterback Jonquel Dawson threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the winners. Dawson’s 31-yard TD pass to a wide-open Cornell Byrd on the last play of regulation tied the game, and his 20-yarder to Blake Tibbs in OT proved to be the game-winner. Brookwood, which handled MLK for most of the game, was unable to get a first down…

Brookwood (8-3) plays at M.L. King (11-0) in the second round of the Class AAAAA football playoffs.
Are you concerned about Brookwood's chances of beating undefeated M.L. King Friday night (at Hallford Stadium in DeKalb County) and advancing in the Class AAAAA football playoffs? Don't be. Here are five reasons why the Broncos can — and will — win: 1. Football Pedigree: Face it, Broncos fans, this isn't the best Brookwood team ever assembled. But it benefits from being a part of a program that regularly plays in big games. A year after winning the state championship, Brookwood hasn't forgotten how to win. There's a reason Brookwood has won two titles, and played in five finals and seven semifinals. 2. Playmakers: Brookwood has enough offensive playmakers to get it done. Running backs Nick Tompkins and Jamaal Cole, wide receiver B.J. …

B.J. Sammon scores game-winner in Brookwood's 30-27 win at Peachtree Ridge.
Brookwood scored a come-from-behind win over Peachtree Ridge Friday night to escape the Lions Den with a 30-27 victory in the first round of the Class AAAAA football playoffs. Quarterback Zach Moon found B.J. Sammon with 47 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 24. Then in overtime, Sammon scored again on a 9-yard end around run to give the defending state champions (8-3) the victory after the Lions (8-3) had kicked a field goal on the first OT possession. In a punishing night of running the ball the Lions rushed for 369 yards, including an amazing 312 by Diandre Atwater. The Lions outgained the Broncos 400-249 yards and ran 74 offensive plays to the Broncos 44. But the Broncos took advantage of Peachtree Ridge turnovers and …
