A Kentucky boy accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister to death with a gun he got for his birthday.
Two-year-old Caroline Sparks loved playing outside, singing, and her 5-year-old brother, who accidentally shot her to death last week with the .22-caliber rifle he got for his birthday. CNN reports the children's mother had stepped outside for just a few minutes when the accident occurred. It was the third time in about a month that someone was shot to death by a child under 6. The boy's gun was a Crickett rifle marketed specifically for young children as "my first rifle," the CNN story said. The gun stocks come in colors such as pink and blue. Thieves smashed front door glass to gain access to the Dacula store.
DACULA, GA -- Just hours after a large shipment of weapons arrived at a local gun store, burglars struck the shop and stole numerous handguns, tactical rifles and shotguns. According to business owner David Duncan, Big Gun Armory received two large deliveries on Friday afternoon. Duncan said the 65 guns were immediately placed on display since store inventory had been heavily depleted due to increased sales related to the election, the Connecticut shootings and holiday shopping. Then, at 1:47 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, Duncan got a call from his alarm company -- the burglar alarm had been activated. This week's discussion addresses children, guns and the potentially deadly outcomes.
Earlier this week I was horrified by a story I read in the news about a toddler that got his hands on a gun and accidentally shot and killed his 33-year-old mother. It was a senseless tragedy that could have been avoided by the exercise of caution and common sense, but it's too late for that young mother. In spite of that story, I believe that guns should be allowed in the house but kept unloaded and locked away in a secure cabinet away from curious little hands. Every man and woman should have the right to defend themselves, but guns should be respected and not left out to become the threat. A lot of parents might disagree, choosing to err on the side of caution, and ban firearms from the home entirely. These parents might feel confident …
