Atlanta Braves' Jason Heyward To Play in Gwinnett

The outfielder will begin a rehab stint Thursday morning at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

Goodbye Brian McCann, hello Jason Heyward. The Gwinnett Braves announced Heyward, a starting outfielder for several years with the Atlanta Braves, will begin an injury rehab stint at Coolray Field beginning Thursday (May 9). Heyward, 23, underwent an appendectomy in April and was placed on Atlanta's disabled list. He is hitting .121 (7-for-58) in 2013. For his career, he is hitting .256 with 61 home runs. He is expected to be the designated hitter and bat second in Thursday's morning game (10:35 a.m.) vs. Pawtucket. Heyward also is expected to travel to Scranton (Pa.) with the G-Braves for a weekend series, and then be re-evaluated, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Gwinnett Braves to Host "Boston Strong" Night

Sports stars formerly from Boston, including Matt Ryan, Jason Varitek, Rodney Harrison and Dee Brown will be at Coolray Field on May 7. Part of ticket sales from the night will go to OneFundBoston.org.

The Gwinnett Braves will show their support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing with a special night to raise funds for the families affected. On May 7th, the G-Braves will play the Boston Red Sox's minor league team the Pawtucket Red Sox. First pitch is at 6:05pm at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. --How have you shown support for Boston? Double-Header at Coolray Field During 'Snellville Night'

The G-Braves defeat Charlotte on Friday, 'Snellville Night', in 2013 opener. A twin bill is scheduled for Saturday.

Delaying their 2013 opener by one day did not hurt the Gwinnett Braves' performance. The team cruised past Charlotte, 5-4, on Friday (April 5) at Coolray Field. Snellville held a special place during the game, with Mayor Kelly Kautz throwing the first pitch and many residents in attendance for 'Snellville Night.'  The scheduled season opener Thursday evening was postponed due to rain and chilly temps. Shortstop Tyler Pastornicky, who has some experience with the Atlanta Braves, went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Pitcher Sean Gilmartin went five innings, allowing one run on six hits. Gwinnett Braves Postpone Thursday's 2013 Opener

There will be a single game Friday, and a double-header Saturday at Coolray Field.

The Gwinnett Braves have postponed Thursday's scheduled home opener at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, due to rain. According to a news release, the G-Braves and the Charlotte Knights will play a single game Friday at 7:05 p.m., and a double-header Saturday starting at 5:05 p.m. The T-shirt giveaway will be pushed back to Friday night (for the first 2,000 fans). Chopper Shares G-Braves Opening Day Forecast With Patch

The Gwinnett Braves' groundhog mascot hopes skies will clear up for the season opener at Coolray Field Thursday.

During last week's cold spell, the Gwinnett Braves' mascot, Chopper, issued a weather guarantee that temperatures on Opening Day would be warm and springlike. The groundhog has updated his forecast and now is calling for rain Thursday, but hopes skies will clear before the 7:05pm first pitch against the Charlotte Knights. According to the Gwinnett Braves' website, if it does rain Thursday but stops before the scheduled game time, the game will go on as planned. If it continues to rain past the start time, there will be a rain delay. Ticket holders will not be left high and dry no matter the weather. Gwinnett Braves Award November Grant to Mother’s Choice Learning Center

Outreach program for families in need is recipient of team’s “Thanksgiving”-themed grant.

The Gwinnett Braves announced last year that the team’s November 2011 Grant was awarded to Mother’s Choice Learning Center, Inc.  The center earned the $1,000 grant for fitting November’s “Thanksgiving” theme: supporting children and families that are homeless.  They will be honored tonight, Aug. 13, at the Gwinnett Braves game.   Mother’s Choice Learning Center is a non-profit organization that provides numerous resources to families in need.  Amongst its many objectives, Mother’s Choice strives to provide food and clothing, temporary housing, financial assistance and employment assistance to less-fortunate families of Gwinnett County and the metro Atlanta area.  “Mother's Choice Learning Center is overwhelmed with joy for the support …

Medlen Shipped to Gwinnett; Constanza Starts for Atlanta

Updated 9:28 a.m., May 30 The Gwinnett Braves made some roster changes Tuesday, in conjunction with their struggling parent club Atlanta Braves, according to media reports. Pitcher Kris Medlen was optioned to Gwinnett just before Tuesday's game, and outfielder Jose Constanza was promoted to Atlanta. Constanza started in left field Tuesday as the A-Braves ended an eight-game losing streak. "You've got to try to push the envelope as much as you can," Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
