GGC President Tapped to Lead Gwinnett Chamber

Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman, charter president of Georgia Gwinnett College, to assume chamber leadership role July 1.

Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman, charter president of Georgia Gwinnett College, has been named new president and CEO of the 2,700-member Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. The chamber’s board of directors made the announcement March 15. Dr. Kaufman will officially assume leadership of the Duluth-based chamber July 1 after transitioning out of his current position at GGC. GCPS-Gwinnett Chamber Partnership to Be Reviewed by Attorney General

The Gwinnett school system has helped Partnership Gwinnett fund business recruitment.

The Georgia Attorney General's Office has agreed to review the legality of a financial arrangement between the Gwinnett school system and a Gwinnett Chamber business unit, according to a media report. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Lauren Kane, a spokesperson for Attorney General Sam Olens, said that the office is reviewing the issue. It is acting on a request by state schools Superintendent John Barge. Since 2007, the Gwinnett system, which is headquartered in Suwanee, has given Partnership Gwinnett $150,000 a year. That money helps to fund the salaries of two employees who work to recruit new business to the county. Jim Maran Plans to Retire From Gwinnett Chamber

Chamber President and CEO has led chamber through tough economic times.

Jim Maran plans to retire as president and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce at the end of this year, according to a press release issued Sept. 7 by the chamber. Gwinnett Chamber Surveys Candidates

Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce shares results of candidate surveys with voters. Candidates were asked about key business issues.

The Gwinnett Chamber has shared results from surveys of candidates seeking elected offices that represent Gwinnett. The surveys focused on key business issues including economic development and job growth. The survey was sent to local, state and national candidates to assist and inform voters prior to the July 31 Primary, according to a press release announcing availability of the results. Candidates were asked to respond to questions about economic development, education, legal and regulatory reforms, and transportation. The chamber sent the survey to all qualified candidates running for office. Snellville Homebuilder Embroiled in Lawsuit

Snellville homebuilder David Bowling is listed as the registered agent for the legal entity that is suing former Suwanee Mayor Nick Masino and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce over a failed land deal. The Georgia Secretary of State's office confirmed Bowling's involvement Monday. Limited Liability Companies in Georgia are required to register with that office. Bowling is a partner in Williams & Bowling Builders, which officially lists a Snellville address at 2035 Delbury Court. Bowling could not be reached at his office number on Monday. Bowling's business partner, Brad Williams, also could not be reached for comment. It is not known whether Williams is also part of Settles Bridge Farm LLC, which filed a lawsuit last week in Gwinnett …
