Hit-and-Run Driver Indicted on 29 Charges, Including Murder, After Striking 15 Vehicles

Michael O. Snider is charged with vehicular homicide and felony murder after the fatal series of accidents on Jan. 23.

Snellville and Gwinnett County Police responded to a devastating scene Jan. 23 after an alleged drunk driver caused a total of 15 accidents stretching from Memorial Drive in DeKalb to Walton Court just outside of Snellville city limits. According to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the driver ended his rampage when he crashed into John Boy's restaurant on Highway 78. The five-vehicle crash, on Walton, resulted in a fatality.  The driver, Michael Owen Snider, was indicted on April 24 by a Gwinnett County jury on 29 separate charges, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. The charges include two counts of homicide by vehicle and another of felony murder, meaning that the jury believes Snider intentionally set out to kill people on the road …

Details Emerge in Fatal Accident, Hit-and-Runs on Highway 78

Son of driver accused of ramming 15 vehicles stated that his father had just left a DeKalb bar, where he was regularly over-served.

Gwinnett County Police have released details surrounding the hit-and-runs that took place on Jan. 23 shortly before midnight. The accidents stretched from Memorial Drive in DeKalb County to Walton Court in Snellville, with the final accident resulting in the death of Loganville's Mintiwal Woldeyhans, 69. Her daughter, 51-year-old Yeshihareg Abebe, is in the hospital with serious injuries.  The driver, Michael O. Snider, 70, is currently in Gwinnett County jail on charges of DUI, following too closely, reckless driving, vehicular homicide and serious injury by vehicle.
