Former Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau was in Boston competing in the Boston Marathon at the time of Monday's explosions.
There was a lot of relief Monday when friends were able to report that former Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau had finished the Boston Marathon and was safe. Beaudreau said it was actually a close call. He and a friend were about a block away, headed back to the transit station, when the explosions occurred. "It was a crazy, crazy day," Beaudreau said from his Boston hotel room Monday night. "I had finished the race about an hour and a half, two hours ahead of that. We were headed to the transit station and were actually going toward the finish line. I stopped and asked how to get there and were told we were headed the wrong way. So we turned around - thank God. About five minutes later - boom." Beaudreau said it …

The four candidates for Gwinnett County Commission District 3 answer questions submitted by Patch readers.
Next month, voters in Gwinnett County District 3 will decide if Mike Beaudreau, Tommy Hunter, Mike Korom or Jerry Oberholtzer will serve as the area's next county commissioner. Since Beaudreau, Oberholtzer, Hunter and Korom are all running as Republicans and there are no Democratic challengers, the race will be decided during the July 31 primary. The runoff, if necessary, will be held on Aug. 21. The deadline to register to vote in the primary is July 2, and absentee voting begins July 9. Patch asked each of the candidates to answer a series of questions relating to current political issues. The questionnaires were based in part on questions submitted by readers. Patch did not limit the length of the responses. Each candidate's answers are…

Mike Beaudreau, Jerry Oberholtzer, Mike Korom and Tommy Hunter attempt to win over voters during two-hour question and answer session.
Being the incumbent can be tough. After eight years as the District 3 Gwinnett County Commissioner, incumbent Mike Beaudreau has made a number of decisions which challengers Jerry Oberholtzer, Tommy Hunter and Mike Korom were eager to question during a June 14 candidate forum at Stars and Strikes in Dacula. Each candidate was given the opportunity to ask two questions of another candidate. Five of the six questions asked by Hunter, Korom and Oberholtzer were directed at Beaudreau -- most calling the incumbent’s bona fides as a fiscal conservative into question. Hunter asked how Beaudreau could support the county trash plan based on conservative principles. “How do you rectify in your mind taking away the right of the residents to choose …

Snellville Patch attended the recent GOP town hall meeting in Snellville.
We attended the GOP town hall meeting in Snellville, Ga., on Nov. 1, 2011. State Reps. Brett Harrell and Len Walker; State Sen. Don Balfour; Gwinnett County Commissioner Mike Beaudreau; Carole Boyce, a school board member; and Dr. Robert McClure, school board chairman were present at the meeting to take the public's questions. See the attached videos for a little of what we heard. Below, we gathered a few quotes of the night. On federal judge’s ruling, allowing Lake Lanier to be used for water consumption: “That was very, very good news. If we had overreacted to some folks a couple of years ago, we would have spent hundreds of millions of dollars. Gwinnett would have taken out loans and who knows how much money to build reservoirs.” --…
