The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Roberto Santillanes-Carrillo.
Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office has positively identified a man whose body was recovered from Norris Lake on Monday, as Roberto Santillanes-Carrillo of Atlanta. The official cause of death is drowning, according to Ted Bailey, chief forensic investigator with the medical examiner's office. Santillanes-Carrillo's last known address was in Atlanta, he said. Santillanes-Carrillo, 45, drowned in Norris Lake Saturday after the kayak he was in capsized. He was taking a break from building a boat deck at a nearby home. Officials said that he could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket. Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office is working to positively identify a man whose body was recovered from Norris Lake on Monday. In addition, the medical examiner will look to determine a cause of death, and to notify next of kin. The man's body was found by divers on Monday about 3:10 p.m., with assistance from sonar devices and cadaver dogs. A number of agencies from several counties, including Gwinnett, DeKalb, Forsyth and Dawson counties and a volunteer K-9 team from metro Atlanta had assisted in the search throughout three days. Emergency workers recovered the body of a 46-year-old man missing in Norris Lake since Saturday.
The body of a missing man in Norris Lake was located by divers Monday afternoon. Gwinnett County Fire and Rescue, with assistance from divers from Forsyth County and a volunteer K-9 team from metro Atlanta assisted. The man's body was recovered about 3:10 p.m. "We are thankful that the man was able to be located today," said Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. "We can now bring closure to the community and to the family and friends of the victim." Rescue and recovery workers began a third day of efforts to the locate the man about 8 a.m. Monday. Updated 1:10 p.m., Feb. 6: Rescue teams planned to suspend search efforts before 5 p.m. Sunday for the body of a 46-year-old man who was missing in Norris Lake for more than a day. Fire fighters, police, divers and swift water teams from several counties, including Gwinnett, Dawson and Forsyth counties are assisting in Sunday search efforts. Divers have completed several rescue attempts, but they have not been able to locate the 46-year-old man.
Rescuers are searching for a man believed to have drowned in Norris Lake in Snellville. The 46-year-old man, who fire officials are not identifying at this time, took a kayak out on the lake and capsized about noon, said Lt. Eric Eberly, of Gwinnett County Fire and Rescue. The man is part of a crew working on completing a boat deck for homeowners in the 700 block of Lake Drive. Co-workers said the man usually used his work breaks to kayak in Norris Lake, but this time he ran into trouble. "He didn't know how to swim and didn't have a life jacket," Eberly said.
