Female Korean War Veteran, Shirley Smith, Passes Away

Smith served with the US. Navy; the funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 8.

Shirley Rutland Smith, age 77, of Snellville, passed away February 4, 2013.  Mrs. Smith served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. She was a member of the Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church and was a loving homemaker. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Michael Whelan of Snellville, Darilyn and Andrew Moore of Snellville, Lisa and Karl Kuchta of Spruce Pine, NC, Rebekah Holcomb of Atlanta, Kathleen and Douglas Wintemute of Lawrenceville; son and daughter-in-law, Pressley E. and Carolyn Smith, IV of Snellville; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. The service is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 18.

Mildred Brodnax, 89, of Snellville, passed away Jan. 14.  Mrs. Brodnax was a member of Bethany Baptist Church for 76 years and was a Gwinnett County native. She loved to crochet and worked at the church for the Mother’s Day Out Program where she loved watching the children.     She was preceded in death by her husband, David Brodnax; daughter, Ruth Ann Brodnax; grandson, David Carl Ferguson and sister, Betty Berry.  She is survived by her daughters Peggy Brodnax of Toccoa, Ga., Sarah F. Lucius Lamar (Buck) Patat, 93, of Snellville, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012, after a lengthy illness. An open house memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Jan. 5th in Snellville.  He was born on April 18, 1919, to Fred C. and Irene W. Patat of Bogart, Ga. Daddy Buck is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nadine Bell Patat; daughter and son-in-law, Jane P. and Jim Rucker; two grandsons and their wives, Keith and Julie Rucker of Tifton and Gregory and Jill Rucker of Loganville; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Calvin, Rebecca, Joshua, Olivia and Elizabeth.   Also, he is survived by a sister, Ann Cooper of Nicholson, and a brother, Gene Patat of Monroe and several nieces and nephews.  A decorated veteran, he served four …

Adelaide Andrew Eidson, age 91, of Lawrenceville, passed away Nov. 5, 2012.  She is survived by her husband of 71 years, James B. Eidson; son, James B. Eidson, Jr. and his partner, Teresa Loumakis both of Johns Creek; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis A. and Marie Eidson of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Sam Eidson, Danny Eidson, Brian Eidson and Scott Eidson; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Eidson was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 38 years of service. Daniel “Cecil” Hannah, age 87 of Loganville, Ga. passed away Nov. 4, 2012.  He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 62 years, Imogene Yancey Hannah and is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Nettie Yancey; sister-in-law, Kathleen Rice; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 'Shorty' Hesler, World War II Veteran, Passes Away

Obituary: Mr. Hesler passed away at the age of 90.

Mr. Alvin “Shorty” Hesler, age 90, passed away of natural causes on Oct. 1, 2012.  Mr. Hesler was born in Rome, Ga., on November 23, 1921.  He was a World War II Army Veteran, a Mason and was retired from Central Truck Lines of Atlanta after 32 years of service. Mr. Hesler is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris E. Hesler; son, Stanley W. Hesler of Atlanta; daughter, Bonnie June Smith of Greensboro; grandchildren, Bonnie Bynum of Smyrna, and Alvin Hesler of Savannah. Ralph Carlton Herring, age 83, of Snellville (Centerville Community) died Tuesday, September 25, 2012.  He was born November 10, 1928, in Marion County, South Carolina, the son of the late Ralph C. and Belle Bryant Herring.  Mr. Herring was a 1950 graduate of Clemson University and retired as Area Credit Manager of USS Agri-Chemicals, Div. of U.S. Steel Corporation and had lived in the Atlanta area since 1971.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a retired Lt.
