Achiel Morgan, 15, charged with armed robbery in an incident that resulted in the shooting death last year of fellow Grayson High School student, Paul Sampleton, 14, was denied bond Monday.
The three teens charged in connection with the Dec. 19, 2012 murder of 14-year-old Paul Sampleton have remained in jail since their arrest early in February. An attempt Monday to obtain bond for Achiel Morgan, 15, charged with armed robbery in connection with the incident, was not successful, according to The Gwinnett Daily Post. Morgan's attorney argued that he had no prior convictions, but Gwinnett County Judge Debra Turner reportedly agreed with the prosecutor that a first offense of armed robbery that results in a murder is a significant risk to the community. LOGANVILLE, GA -- Gwinnett County Police announced Friday that three teens have been arrested in connection with the Dec. 19 death of Paul Sampleton, 14, of Grayson. Officials say all three were fellow students at Grayson High School. Arrested and in custody are Larnell Sillah, 15, charged with homicide; and Romaine Stewart, 18, and Achiel Morgan, 15, both charged with armed robbery. Gwinnett Police confirm they are investigating the possibility that Paul Sampleton's shoes could have played a part in his murder Wednesday at his home in Grayson, Ga.
As family and friends plan a candlelight vigil and prepare to bury Paul Sampleton, Jr., a freshman from Grayson High School, police say the investigation into the killer or killers of the 14-year-old is ongoing. Cpl. Jake Smith, public information officer for Gwinnett County Police Department, said that whether the teens shoes played a role in his death is one scenario that is being considered. Smith said if anyone has any information that might be helpful to the investigation, they would like to hear it. "We are looking into that angle, among other things," Smith said.
