City Manager Search Continues

With a days left, the city still does not have a replacement for its outgoing city manager. Deadline to apply to the permanent job is April 23.

Snellville Mayor Kelly Kautz hoped to nominate an interim city manager during Monday's council meeting, but that did not happen.  Kautz had narrowed her choice down to one, and said that she hoped to ease the transition by appointing someone before Russell Treadway departs. However, the vote was 6-0 to postpone the nomination and confirmation by council. Now, the city has a little more than a week before the current city manager's last day -- April 6. Treadway, who served in the position since 2008, will resigned to take another job in Sevierville, Tenn. Norcross-based Slavin Management Consultants have been hired to find a permanent replacement. However, city officials said that the firm would not be able to complete its search before the…

Interim City Manager Search Stalled

After a special called meeting last week, Snellville city leaders are backing off an immediate search for an interim city manager.

Sparks flew at a recent special called meeting to talk about who might become Snellville's interim city manager, and afterward leaders determined that they still could not get along. So for now, the search for someone to fill the outgoing city manager's post on a temporary basis is off. A search for permanent person is on. At a meeting held February 15, leaders were expected to discuss search firms. That means current City Manager Russell Treadway is likely here to stay until April, when his 60-day notice expires. Mayor Kelly Kautz previously said she was considering Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead for the interim post, among others candidates. She was expected to make an official nomination on Monday, but that did not happen. "It is…

Roy Whitehead is just one name being bandied about for the post of interim city manager in Snellville. And, city leaders will meet Thursday to discuss how to fill the soon-to-be vacant post. Russell Treadway, the current city manager, resigned Tuesday to take over as city administrator for an east Tennessee city. Snellville Mayor Kelly Kautz wants to fill an interim post for Treadway's position as soon as possible. Asked on Wednesday if she were considering the chief of police for the post, Kautz said "yes I am." There are a couple names that she's looking at, and Whitehead is one, she added. Whitehead runs the city's largest department, with about 60 police officers on staff. He's led the department since 2004, transitioning the public …

Yep, Darla you are reading that right. He would be on as a "consultant." So, he would be available for phone calls, questions, etc. But, he would not be working in his capacity as city manager, and he would not be up there at city hall.   more ›
