Freeze and Wind Warnings on Monday for Snellville Area

Spring is off to a slow start in 2013.

Attention, Snellville. It may be spring, but winter is still in the air. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has a freeze warning AND a wind advisory in effect for Monday, March 25. The freeze warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday (March 26). And the wind advisory is good until 6 p.m. Monday evening. Motorists and boaters are warned to be cautious. The advisories read in part: FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL IMPACT EARLY BUDDING AND FLOWERING VEGETATION. STRONG WINDS CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT. ROUGH CHOP COULD OCCUR ON AREA LAKES...BOATERS SHOULD ALSO USE EXTRA CAUTION. THESE WINDS COULD KNOCK MEDIUM TO LARGE LIMBS FROM TREES AND EVEN BLOW DOWN WEAK OR DROUGHT STRESSED TREES. -- Patch will have updates on severe weather.

Tornado Warning in Snellville

Hazardous weather is forecast for the area Monday, and Lilburn sits in the path.

Snellville "Fortunate" to Miss Wednesday's Wild Weather

Strong storms lost their punch before arriving here.

The Wednesday storm system that resulted in deadly weather in Northwest Georgia lost most of its punch by the time it reached Gwinnett County. Despite three Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued in the county Wednesday afternoon, residents were spared the dangerous conditions seen elsewhere. The aftermath left windy and cool conditions, and a forecast that calls for highs only in the 40s for Thursday. By the time the heaviest weather moved through after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Snellville saw some heavy rain, a few tree limbs knocked down and some power outages. Freezing Precipitation 'Likely' on Friday for Gwinnett

The frozen stuff could begin overnight Thursday, forecasts say.

The threat of severe weather for Gwinnett is looming again. According to the National Weather Service, there is a "chance" of freezing rain overnight Thursday (January 24) and "likely" for Friday (January 25) before 4 p.m. Also, winds could reach 15 mph. The low Thursday night is forecast to be about 28 degrees. An Arctic air mass and moisture moving into the area is blamed. Wind Warnings Issued Here Due to Hurricane Sandy

A High Wind Warning is in effect for the North Georgia Mountains; a Wind Advisory issued for Metro Atlanta.

Hurricane Sandy may be making landfall on the Jersey Shore, but the affects of the massive storm are being felt hundreds of miles away, even here in Gwinnett County. With the storm moving inland, and coupled with high pressure building from the north, the National Weather Service has issued wind warnings into Tuesday evening for metro Atlanta and north Georgia. A high wind warning, with sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 55, is in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for the north Georgia mountains. A wind advisory, with gusts up to 40 mph, is in effect for the rest of central and northern Georgia, including Gwinnett County, also until 8 p.m. Tuesday. The wind could make driving hazardous, result in power outages and create hazardous …

THE National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Gwinnett County until 4:30 p.m.   The storm is capable of producing dime-sized hail and damaging winds up to 40 mph. Severe Weather Hits County

Heavy winds and rain hit the area multiple times Wednesday night causing several downed trees and a fire.

A series of severe thunderstorms blew through Snellville Wednesday, bringing high winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning, and keeping emergency personnel on their toes. The storms, some of which packed winds up to 45 mph and dime-sized hail, according to the National Weather Service, moved through Gwinnett County just before 7 p.m. At least two more lines of  rainstorms moved through by midnight. The worst part seemed to be the first wave, which kept county firefighters on the go, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services. Rutledge said between 6:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. that fire crews responded to 124 incidents including vehicle injury accidents, live wires down, fires (possibly from lightning …

Updated: Hail, Strong Winds Likely in Severe Storms

Snellville is under a severe thunderstorm watch, and weather officials say to expect hail.

Updated 8:20 p.m., June 15: A severe thunderstorm watch has been extended for 32 Georgia counties, including Gwinnett, by the National Weather Service in Atlanta. The watch is in effect until 11 p.m. A watch means severe storms, including hail, damaging winds and lightning are possible in and around the area. Gwinnett is located in the southern part of the watch area. At 7:45 p.m., the National Weather Service issued another special statement about the metro-Atlanta storms. Doppler radar continues to indicate "a severe thunderstorm capable of producing large, damaging hail up to golf ball sized." That storm was located near Mountain Park, which is the Lilburn area. Severe Storm Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Snellville area. Most rain is expected after 8 p.m.

Metro Atlanta could be in for some strong storms this evening, according to the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued at 3:45 p.m. for areas in northwest Georgia until 11 p.m.. The watch area includes Gwinnett County and many surrounding areas, including DeKalb, Rockdale, Hall and Walton counties.  A hazardous weather outlook was also issued earlier Thursday morning for areas that also include Gwinnett County. The Snellville area there is a 70 percent chance of rain for the evening. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, mostly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Updated: Severe Weather Watch Canceled

The National Weather Service has recalled a severe thunderstorm watch, but there is still a chance of rain throughout the entire day.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been canceled for north Georgia, including Gwinnett County, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service has issues the warned early April 20, and it was expected to end at noon. A line of storms that caused wind damage in northern Alabama earlier today was expected in the area late this morning as a strong cold front approached. For the Snellville area, there is an 80 percent chance of rain today, and some storms could be severe, according to the National Weather Service. Rain amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch -- maybe higher amounts with thunderstorms -- is expected.  The high will be near 77 degrees.
