Rape, Home Invasion Reported in Unincorporated Lilburn

Two armed men this week sexually assaulted a woman and stole jewelry after kicking their way into a house in unincorporated Lilburn, reports said.

  Two armed men kicked their way into the house of a jeweler Monday night, sexually assaulted one of the women in the house and made away with about $100,000 in jewelry and watches, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported. The house is in unincorporated Lilburn, according to the police incident report, which included an extensive list of the jewelry taken. Investigators believe the family, who are Indian, was targeted because they own a jewelry store near the Highway 124 corridor close to Snellville, according to the newspaper. The suspects are black males, both about 5 feet 11 inches tall. One weighs about 180 pounds, the other around 185 pounds, according to the police report. New Sexual Assault Center Announced

Health providers, law enforcement and Walton EMC have teamed up to help open the new center in Snellville.

Eastside Medical Center announced today a new partnership between local police and health care professionals that will mean more services for victims of sexual assault in Gwinnett County The collaborative effort includes: Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, the Snellville Police Department, the Lawrenceville Police Department, Walton EMC and Covenant Counseling of Snellville. I think more mention should have been made about Convenant Counseling Center and its' Director Jaye Peabody. They are a small non-profit that does wonderful work in the community. Meadowcreek Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assault

Heriberto Lopez, a social studies teacher, was detained on Feb. 28.

A Meadowcreek High School social studies teacher was arrested for allegedly sexual assaulting a student who goes to the school, according to officials.  Heriberto Lopez of 2530 Lockemeade Way was admitted to the Gwinnett County Detention Center on. Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m., according to records. Lopez has been a teacher at Meadowcreek High School since Aug. 2008, according Jorge Quintana, spokesperson for Gwinnett County Schools.  He was released on a $2400 bond, according to the Detention Center docket.  Because the incident happened off campus, Gwinnett County Police are handling the investigation.  Human resources within the school is also investigating, according to Quintana.
