Snellville Woman, 67, Fears for Life After Harassing Phone Calls

A Snellville woman told police that she was afraid for her life after receiving harassing phone calls and being cursed at.

An elderly woman reported to police earlier this month that she was afraid for her life after receiving harassing phone calls from a man. According to the Snellville Police report, the 67-year-old said the man, whose identity she was able to provide to police, first called her around 3:50 p.m. that day. Within 40 minutes, he called her another two times. She told police that at one point he asked her if she lived at a specific address in Snellville. She told him yes, which at that point he called her the B word. After the phone calls and name calling, the woman became scared, thinking that the suspect might come over to her house. Police told her that she could obtain a temporary protection order against the man, and she could also call …

Inside the Police Reports: String of Thefts Yields One Suspect

Police say a series of crimes in the Holly Springs/Stockton Walk area could be tied to one man.

On June 27, nine calls were made to police concerning items stolen from cars near Stockton Walk Lane. A person or group of people presumably were going through neighborhoods and checking vehicles for easy access, according to Special Operations Commander Sgt. Greg Perry. No windows were broken, and there was no forced entry. There were no suspects, until the night of June 29. A resident saw a suspicious person walking around Stockton Walk Lane and reported him to the Snellville Police Department. When police arrived, they saw a young man attempting to hide. He was covered in grass stains from lying on the ground. The suspect, Michael Wesley Pomeroy, 20, was arrested for loitering and prowling. The following morning, more than a dozen more …

Snellville Celebrates First City-Sponsored Flag Day

City officials hope to make it an annual event.

“I was 12 years old, and it was 1982,” began Rep. Rob Woodall. “Ronald Reagan was reading a letter from a sailor on the midway. The sailor was talking about finding some Vietnamese refugees on a boat two or three days away from death. He said that as they approached this vessel floating there in the middle of the ocean, the occupants began to shout, 'Hey, freedom man! Hey, freedom man!' That's what flag day is for me.” In honor of Snellville's first official celebration of Flag Day, Woodall presented the city with a flag that was previously flown at our nation's capitol. “The American flag is the only flag in the world that when you see it come over a hill, you know it's there to liberate you rather than enslave you,” said Woodall. To …
