About 131.2 pounds of the drugs were found at a Lawrenceville, Ga. home according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
On May 1st, local law enforcement agencies responded to a home at 858 James Road in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Ga. after receiving a tip that drugs were being stored there. When Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Homeland Security Investigations agents arrived, they found two containers filled with what they believed to be methamphetamine. The Gwinnett Metro Task Force also the drug in liquid form at the home. Officers from the Lilburn, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Duluth and Suwanee Police Departments along with the GCSO make up the Gwinnett Metro Task Force. Patch takes a look at the dogs behind dozens of criminal arrests and drug busts.
Nine years ago, the Snellville Police department made the decision to add a K9 unit to their state-of-the-art police force. Now, the unit is the largest out of all the Gwinnett municipalities, surpassed only by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, and is responsible for dozens of drug busts and apprehension of wanted criminals. Sgt. David Matson is the handler for K9 Chris, a Malanois. The dynamic duo has worked together since the program’s inception in 2004, making Chris the oldest dog on the force. His biggest moment in the spotlight came during a drug bust in the Summit Chase subdivision a few years back. A Snellville woman alleged that a nurse made threats against her after they were involved verbal fight at a hospital involving a snake. According to the Snellville Police report, the incident started on a recent Wednesday when she was visiting her ailing mother who is a resident at the New London Health Center in town. The woman explained that at about 10:40 p.m., she heard loud screams outside her mother's room. She went to see what the noise was about and was told by one of the nurses that they found a snake in the facility and it startled them. According to the woman, the two entered a verbal altercation and went their separate ways. When she returned to her mother's room, she overheard the nurse saying that her shift ends at 11 p.m. …

The armed suspect was wearing a white towel around his head, according to Snellville Police.
Money was taken in a robbery reported at La Quinta Inn in Snellville last week. According to Snellville Police, the incident took place at around 9:02 p.m. April 17 at the hotel, located at 2971 West Main Street. The manager told police that a man walked through the front lobby entrance with a gun in his hand, according to a police report obtained by Snellville Patch. He then jumped over the counter and asked the employee where the money was. After the victim told him where it was, the suspect took the money, jumped back over the counter and exited the hotel on foot. Snellville Police are looking for a man suspected in an armed robbery April 20 at the Citgo gas station at 2304 Scenic Highway. According to a press release issued by Snellville PD, the suspect jumped over the counter, grabbed the clerk and demanded money. The robbery occurred around 11 p.m. April 20. "The clerk fought with the suspect and pulled the bandana from his face," according to the report. Police say the suspect held a large knife to the clerk's neck and forced him into a back room. The suspect fled on foot with a unknown amount of cash. The suspect is described by police as a black male who was wearing jeans, a hoodie, a light-blue bandana, and a glove on one hand and possibly a sock over the other.

Police responded to an accident around 3 p.m. on Friday that involved an overturned vehicle on the corner of Highway 78 and Abington Drive, according to Snellville Police Cpt. Greg Perry. No injuries have been reported. Snellville Patch will update this story if more information is made available. Traffic may be impacted.

Snellville Police urge caution in the wake of criminals attempting to enter homes under false pretenses.
Snellville Police are warning residents to be wary of strangers, sometimes dressed in reflective vests, coming to homes and attempting to lure the homeowners out. The most recent incident, according to a statement, involved two white males who told a homeowner they wanted to show her some trees they had to cut down in her neighbor's yard that affected her property. "Once the homeowner was out of the house," a portion of the statement read, "one male attempted entry into the house." That incident occurred off of Park Lane. Another incident involved two males, one Hispanic, trying the same thing off Oak Road. More incidents occured in the Harbour Oaks subdivision. Multiple residents around the Summit Chase Golf and Country Club in Snellville say the same dog has chased and attacked them on different occasions. According to the Snellville Police report, the most recent incident came from an elderly man on a recent Friday. The 72-year-old told authorities that he was walking his dog around 10 p.m. on the cart paths when a dog from the 1500 block of Timberline Trace ran out from the residence and tried to attack him on the golf course. The man said this is the third time in two months that the dog has tried to attack him on the golf course. No injuries were noted in the police report. Police responding to a domestic call on Snellville's Mornington Lane found 87 marijuana plants in the home's garage on Sunday, WSB-TV reports. A woman at the home told Snellville police there was marijuana in the garage after calling to say there had been a fight with her boyfriend, the station reports. An officer smelled marijuana and got a search warrant, which resulted in the arrest of Russell Littlejohn, 34, the station reported.
