Citing a Gwinnett Superior Court error, the Georgia Supreme Court rules that Settles Bridge Farm LLC, partially owned by a Snellville developer, filed its lawsuit prematurely.
The City of Suwanee has won its appeal of a $1.8 million jury award to Snellville developers Settles Bridge Farm LLC, in the final development of a legal battle that dates back to 2008. In an opinion released Monday, Feb. 18, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled that the developers filed their lawsuit prematurely, and that the case should have been dismissed and never come to trial. “We agree with the City that Settles Bridge should have exhausted its administrative remedies prior to initiating litigation in this matter, and we therefore reverse the judgment entered against the City,” read the opinion, which was written by Chief Justice Carol Hunstein. Twelve Gwinnett companies are included on the UGA Alumni Association’s 2013 Bulldog 100. The list recognizes the 100 fastest growing businesses nationwide that are either owned or operated by University of Georgia alumni. Evans, Simpson & Atkins of Snellville, a provider of insurance and other services to financial institutions, was 80th on the Bulldog 100. Over a decade ago, Eric (Rick) Montgomery heard an "angelic voice" singing a solo at church. He hadn't heard a voice like that since he was a child, when his mother would sing and encourage her children to do the same. He discovered the mystery singer's name: Ruby. And as it so happened, Rick played the piano, and had quite a singing voice as well. He introduced himself, and the rest, as they say, is history. Married for thirteen years now, Rick and Ruby Montgomery have finally realized a dream and opened up a small performing arts venue in Snellville. According to a Jan. 8 Target press release, the store announced plans to price match top online retailers year-round, including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com and Toysrus.com (including Babiesrus.com).
