Police believe a man stabbed his girlfriend, then shot himself in the head after an apparent argument early Sunday morning in unincorporated Snellville. The woman, who was stabbed in the back, survived the attack, but the man died, according to a media alert emailed by Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera. “The death of the male is being investigated as a suicide. The female is not a suspect in his death,” Pihera reported. The incident occurred after midnight Sunday morning, May 12, in the 3800 block of White Pine Road, near the intersection of Centerville Rosebud Road and Lenna Drive. Nine years ago, the Snellville Police department made the decision to add a K9 unit to their state-of-the-art police force. Now, the unit is the largest out of all the Gwinnett municipalities, surpassed only by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, and is responsible for dozens of drug busts and apprehension of wanted criminals. Sgt. David Matson is the handler for K9 Chris, a Malanois. The dynamic duo has worked together since the program’s inception in 2004, making Chris the oldest dog on the force. His biggest moment in the spotlight came during a drug bust in the Summit Chase subdivision a few years back. A Snellville Police officer was injured during the ordeal.
A woman is in jail for allegedly shoplifting, stealing a police car and running it into a pole, according to Fox. The incident happened Friday afternoon at the Snellville Home Depot. Fox reported that the suspect was arrested for shoplifting and fought as she was being taken into custody. She allegedly hit her head against the cage in the patrol car. Somehow she made her way into the front of the vehicle and took off with it. She drove around 50 feet before crashing it into a pole, according to Fox. An unidentified officer was injured when his arm became pinned between the car and a concrete curb. He is currently in the hospital. Snellville and Gwinnett County Police responded to a devastating scene Jan. 23 after an alleged drunk driver caused a total of 15 accidents stretching from Memorial Drive in DeKalb to Walton Court just outside of Snellville city limits. According to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith, the driver ended his rampage when he crashed into John Boy's restaurant on Highway 78. The five-vehicle crash, on Walton, resulted in a fatality. The driver, Michael Owen Snider, was indicted on April 24 by a Gwinnett County jury on 29 separate charges, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. The charges include two counts of homicide by vehicle and another of felony murder, meaning that the jury believes Snider intentionally set out to kill people on the road …

The armed suspect was wearing a white towel around his head, according to Snellville Police.
Money was taken in a robbery reported at La Quinta Inn in Snellville last week. According to Snellville Police, the incident took place at around 9:02 p.m. April 17 at the hotel, located at 2971 West Main Street. The manager told police that a man walked through the front lobby entrance with a gun in his hand, according to a police report obtained by Snellville Patch. He then jumped over the counter and asked the employee where the money was. After the victim told him where it was, the suspect took the money, jumped back over the counter and exited the hotel on foot.
