Eight Gwinnett County boys soccer teams play Wednesday in the second round of the Georgia High School Association playoffs.
Two all-Gwinnett matchups highlight the second round of the Georgia High School Association boys soccer playoffs on Wednesday, May 8. Berkmar hosts North Gwinnett and Central Gwinnett plays at Collins Hill in Class AAAAAA. Eight Gwinnett schools are still playing in the tournament. The Comets from Snellville played against the Bears of Lawrenceville at the home of minor league baseball's Gwinnett Braves.
Coolray Field welcomed the top high school baseball teams in Gwinnett for a special showcase this weekend. On Friday afternoon, the South Gwinnett Comets faced off against the Mountain View Bears . It was a close game as the Comets beat the Bears by one run with a final score of 7-6. Be sure to watch the video of South Gwinnett Senior Drew McCarthy as he hits a triple in our photo and video gallery. The showcase continues Saturday as Providence Christian Academy High School takes on Duluth at 2p.m. Then at 4:30p.m., Collins Hill and Brookwood will face off. The final game will be between North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge.

The students, two of them juveniles, face battery and disruption of a public school charges for fighting at school.
A fight in the halls of South Gwinnett High School just before the Thanksgiving break resulted in the arrest of five students, two of them juveniles. According to Gwinnett County Police records, Reginald Anthony Hensley, 18, of 1699 Temple Johnson Road, Loganville, and Michael Edward Shields, 17, 1977 Emerson Circle, Snellville, were charged with battery and disruption of a public school. Marquavis Cooper, 3509 Brushy Ford Road, Loganville, 18, was charged with disruption of a public school. Two other students, juveniles, faced similar charges. According to Jorge Quintana, director of media relations for Gwinnett County Public Schools, the altercation took place in a hallway during class change at South Gwinnet High on Friday, Nov. 16. …

Around 30 cadets trained at Stone Mountain on Saturday, July 14.
Sgt. Christopher Diaz, army instructor for the South Gwinnett High School Army JROTC program, led around 30 cadets as they trained for the National Raider Challenge coming up in November. Five Raider challenges will take place during the school year. A Raider Team usually consists of ten cadets that compete with other local high schools. The cadets ran 4.21 miles up and down the mountain, then constructed a rope bridge that each cadet crossed. Congratulations to the cadets, and good luck!

Brookwood running back had 231 total yards in big win over South Gwinnett.
Snellville Patch Football Honor Roll Player of the Week Jamaal Cole/Brookwood At the end of an email that included Jamaal Cole’s stat line from Brookwood’s 59-21 win over South Gwinnett, Head Coach Mark Crews added the question, “Offensive Player of the Week?” Um … yeah. Cole, a junior running back, accounted for 231 total yards and three TDs in the Broncos’ win. He rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and had five pass receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown. Other top performers last week among local players: BROOKWOOD Zach Moon, quarterback: The junior completed 12 of 14 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Michael Gouge, tight end: The senior graded 93 percent on his blocking assignments and caught two passes …

Parkview comes back in the second half to beat the Comets.
South Gwinnett hosted Parkview in a game that matched South Gwinnett's strong offense against Parkview's strong defense. Parkview prevailed 20-7. The first half seemed to belong to South Gwinnett as the Comets dominated possession. Advances were made in inches as Parkview's defense halted the Comet's passing game. The score at the end of the first half was South Gwinnett 7, Parkview 6. But the second half belonged to the Panthers as the defense continued to shut down the Comets and the offense found their game with standout plays by running back Chris Carson.
